Stephanie Driscoll
A Barrow girl at heart, born in the late 50's in Barrow and raised in nearby Dalton, Stephanie had her fair share of fun and excitement. The youngest daughter of three, Stephanie had a stable background, in the Dalton area, yet schooling was a lot to be desired. It is Interesting that Stephanie had no care or want for Art and Culture until later in life when she started painting after the breakdown of her marriage to her first husband. Stephanie was a typical situation of the time; having married at the age of nineteen years old with a constantly jealous and dominating husband, for twenty-five years of her life. Stephanie needed an escape, somewhere she could get to know herself, and after her husband at the time telling her to 'go do something' she visited Barrow college and discovered Art. She recalls how at the start of the one-day a week course, that she could not paint in her words, yet as time (and confidence) established, Stephanie revealed her true self. Stephanie recalls her tutor at the college and how supportive she was, explaining techniques and showing videos to the group. It was at one year into the course that Stephanie had her 'eureka moment'! Her art had evolved into experienced pieces of art, with fine detail and realistic scenes, captured in the moment of time. To this day Stephanie continues to paint, and expresses her happiness in today's world through her art and passion for painting animals.
