Steve Stead
47 years old born in 1966, in Chester. As as child was raised in a family environment, but was received into care at the age of six. Steve found this traumatic as any of us would have, the 'teary' nights away from home not knowing the reasons why. It was later in life that Steve came to realise that his birth family was 'dysfunctional' and unable to care for him appropriately. In the care home, 'the school', which was described as a care home, Steve was described as 'Shy' – Yet through the series of torment with a string of child abuse – He was able to divert his energy and talent through his artwork, as a form of 'escapism'. Yet Steve always knew he had a passion and talent for art. A turn of events with Steve's care forced him at fifteen to call his biological mother, whom accepted him home with 'open arms'. Steve as a young man had a series of failed relationships and disjointed work, then in 1994, Barrow Police force made contact with Steve through the Welsh Police regarding the domestic violence unit. Steve was in a panic, suddenly the rug had not been swept, the terrors of his mind exploded right through as he recalled the horrifying events all at the same time. His first thought was of the events and the other children. His revelation was that he was not alone. It transpired that many children in care with Steve had suffered the negative experience of what humans are truly capable of. Through all the dramatic events of Steve's life experience, he has continued to express his emotions and inner thoughts through his marvellous artwork. A passion that continues in the world around him today.
